Taking a big decision, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved lateral entry to B.Tech students. After this decision of AICTE, now BTech students will be able to take lateral entry in other branches of engineering apart from the main course. AICTE gave information about this on Friday.

AICTE informed that requests were being made by many students for admission to additional B.Tech courses through lateral entry. In such a situation, this decision has been taken keeping in view the demand of the students.

AICTE Executive Committee gave instructions

AICTE said that the proposal regarding lateral entry was placed before the AICTE Executive Committee. To this the committee said that technical universities may facilitate students to take admission in B.Tech/BE, so that they can get admission in another branch of engineering at the appropriate level of B.Tech programme.

What will be the benefit of lateral entry?

The council said that after this arrangement, the candidates will not be required to study the courses which they have studied in their first discipline after taking admission in the additional program as well as there are many practical examinations in BTech / BE, therefore Students will have to take admission in any institute as a regular student during lateral entry.

Duration of additional degree course also increased

Apart from this, AICTE has now extended the duration of the additional degree course. Earlier this course used to be of two years, but now it has been changed to three years. According to the council, this period has been extended so that there is no agreement on credit in the core discipline. Along with this, the council has also directed the institute to make necessary changes in its rules and take appropriate steps to provide additional courses to BTech students.
