Monsoon Update: Large parts of India are currently witnessing intense monsoon activity, bringing significant relief from the scorching summer heat. As temperatures continue to dip, many regions are experiencing heavy downpours, with some areas facing flood-like conditions. In Himachal Pradesh, a recent cloudburst tragically claimed lives, highlighting the severity of this year’s monsoon. Meanwhile, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were lashed by heavy rain yesterday.

With monsoon clouds covering several regions since early morning, weather conditions remain critical across the country. Northeastern states are facing the brunt of the downpour, with continuous rainfall causing landslides in hilly areas and blocking major roads. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for 13 states over the next 24 hours, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Heavy Rain Alert Issued for These States
According to the IMD, several parts of the country are under an active rain alert:
-
Thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall are likely in East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Konkan-Goa.
-
Karnataka, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur are also under a heavy rain warning.
-
An Orange Alert has been issued for Mizoram, Tripura, and Nagaland, indicating the likelihood of intense rainfall in these regions.
Other areas, including Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, West Rajasthan, Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, Bihar, and Jharkhand, may also experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
Additional states such as Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Haryana are expected to receive significant rainfall. The monsoon alert also covers Chandigarh, Delhi, Kerala, Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
Statewise Weather Outlook
In Uttar Pradesh, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall to continue for several days. The western part of the state is expected to be more affected than the eastern region. Districts including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Sonbhadra, and Varanasi are likely to receive heavy downpours. Noida witnessed early morning drizzle, and more intense rainfall is expected across western UP throughout the day.
Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather reports and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
