Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) is expected to publish RRB Group D Notification 2024 soon. The purpose of the recruitment is to fill various vacancies of Indian Railways such as: IV. Level Track Maintenance Officer, Assistant/Assistant, Support Staff and other Level I posts.
This is an amazing opportunity for those who want to join the prestigious Indian Railways. The testing process has been simplified and now consists of three main stages: Computer Based Testing (CBT), Physical Fitness Test (PET) and Document Verification (DV).
RRB Group D 2024 Selection Process
The RRB Group D selection process has been updated and now includes the following three stages:
- Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Document Verification (DV)
Exam Pattern for Computer-Based Test (CBT)
The CBT 1 is designed to assess the candidates’ knowledge and aptitude through a computer-based examination. Here’s an overview of the CBT 1 exam pattern:
Duration: The test will last 90 minutes. Candidates with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) and a scribe will have 120 minutes.
Total Questions: 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions.
Negative Marking: There will be a penalty of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.
Detailed Sectional Breakdown: The CBT 1 is divided into four key sections, each focusing on different areas:

Minimum Qualifying Marks:
To pass the CBT 1, candidates must secure the following minimum percentage of marks based on their category:
- UR (Unreserved): 40%
- EWS (Economically Weaker Sections): 40%
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 30%
- SC (Scheduled Caste): 30%
- ST (Scheduled Tribe): 30%
RRB Group D Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Candidates who qualify the CBT 1 will be eligible to appear for the PET. This test evaluates the physical endurance of candidates and is conducted separately for male and female candidates.
PET Criteria:
Male Candidates:
- Lift and carry a weight of 35 kg for a distance of 100 meters within 2 minutes, without setting the weight down.
- Run 1000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds.
Female Candidates:
- Lift and carry a weight of 20 kg for a distance of 100 meters within 2 minutes, without setting the weight down.
- Run 1000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds.
Candidates are shortlisted for the PET based on their performance in the CBT 1. Typically, three times the number of vacancies will be called for this stage.
RRB Group D Document Verification (DV)
After successfully passing the CBT 1 and PET, candidates will be called for Document Verification. This stage ensures the authenticity of the candidates’ documents and their eligibility for the posts.
Document Verification Process:
Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted for the DV stage based on their CBT 1 scores. Typically, candidates up to twice the number of vacancies will be called for DV.
Tie-Breaking Criteria: In cases where candidates have the same marks, their merit will be determined by:
- Age: Older candidates will be placed higher in the merit list.
- Alphabetical Order: If ages are the same, names will be sorted alphabetically from A to Z to break the tie.
Final Appointment: The appointment of candidates is subject to:
- Medical Fitness Test: Candidates must pass the medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration.
- Verification of Educational and Community Certificates: All certificates must be verified as per the requirements.
- Character Verification: The antecedents and character of candidates will be verified.
Candidates who clear the Document Verification stage will then undergo a Medical Examination.
