At present, there is no change in the pattern of Common Admission Test (CAT) for admission to other reputed MBA institutes including IIMs. However, the situation regarding the pattern will be clear only after the release of the mock test papers in October. This year the responsibility of CAT has been handed over to IIM Ahmedabad. Mock test papers are issued to the students to make them aware of the exam pattern and practice. A total of 76 questions were asked in CAT last year.
Out of these, 26 questions were related to VARC, 26 from Quantitative Aptitude and 26 from DIRL. Each section had 18 questions MCQs and 8 questions were non MCQ based. Along with the mock tests, the papers of the old examinations will also be issued. In view of the conditions of Kovid, this year also the exam centers of CAT can be increased. The guidelines regarding the exam will be issued a few days before the exam. CAT admit card will be issued on October 27. Information related to the guidelines may also be issued in the admit card. The admit card will help the students to know the exam city and center.
Due to the removal of eligibility criteria for CAT this year, more students will be able to appear for the exam. The requirement of 50% marks in graduation has been removed. With more students appearing in the exam, students will get an opportunity to take admission in non-IIM institutes. Right now all the students prefer IIMs. Due to this the number of students remains less in non IIMs.
GD and PI will be conducted by the respective IIM only
After the CAT score, there is a personal interview and group discussion of the students for the final selection. Most of the IIMs conducted online interviews last year due to Corona. The right to conduct GD and PI rests with the respective IIMs. The organizing institute of CAT cannot interfere in this.
Result likely to come by second week of January-2022
The result is likely to be released in the second week of January after the CAT exam is held on November 28. This will be followed by interview and group discussion. Most of the classes in the last session were conducted online or in blended mode. It is possible that in the new session, offline classes of all semesters will start.
Students can choose any six cities out of 400 centers for examination
This year CAT is proposed at around 400 centers in 158 cities. Students can choose centers in any of the six cities. The exam center allotted to the candidates will depend on their preference filled in the application form. Every year on an average two lakh students appear for this exam on the basis of which the selected get admission in IIMs across the country.
