Air India CEO Resigns Amid Changes in Leadership

Mumbai, April 8: Campbell Wilson, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air India, has resigned from his position as of April 7. Reports suggest that he may officially leave his role by September. Wilson, who became the CEO and Managing Director of Air India in 2022, was the first foreign national to hold this position. His tenure was initially set to last until July 2027.

Wilson joined Singapore Airlines as a management trainee in 1996 and has held various leadership roles, including Vice President in Canada and CEO of Scoot, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines. His leadership faced significant challenges, including a tragic accident involving an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London, which resulted in the loss of 261 lives, including 242 passengers.

The final investigation report regarding the Ahmedabad plane crash is expected to influence the appointment of Wilson’s successor. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released an initial report on July 12, 2025, with the final report anticipated by June 2026. During his time at Air India, Wilson worked on the transformation plan, Vihaan AI, which included the addition of 100 new flights and the merger of Vistara and AirAsia India.
