Bangladesh FM Visits India Amid Food Aid to Seychelles

Mumbai, April 9: Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman is on a three-day visit to India, marking the first visit by a Bangladeshi foreign minister since the new government took office in Dhaka. The visit, described as a ‘goodwill trip’, includes discussions on bilateral issues, trade, connectivity, and medical tourism.

On April 8, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met with Rahman in New Delhi, where they discussed strengthening bilateral relations and regional developments. The two leaders are also expected to address the Ganga Water Treaty, which is nearing expiration.

In related news, India has sent 250 metric tons of food aid to Seychelles as part of a $175 million special economic package aimed at enhancing food security. This assistance is part of India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy, emphasizing support for its neighboring countries.

The food aid was announced by the Ministry of External Affairs, which stated that further shipments are planned in the future. Seychelles, a small island nation, relies heavily on imports, and this aid is crucial for its food security.

As India continues to strengthen its diplomatic ties in the region, the visit of the Bangladeshi foreign minister highlights the importance of collaboration between neighboring countries.
