CBSE Introduces AI and Computational Thinking Course for Students

Mumbai, April 3: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a new course focusing on computational thinking and artificial intelligence (AI) for students from classes 3 to 8. This initiative was announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on April 1.

The course is set to be implemented in CBSE schools starting from the 2026-27 academic year. It aims to enhance students’ understanding of computational thinking and AI from an early age. Computational thinking is a problem-solving technique that emphasizes systematic approaches to finding solutions.

The curriculum will promote logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and technical understanding among students. Various interactive methods such as games, puzzles, projects, and group discussions will be incorporated into the learning process.

This course is part of the ‘AI for Education, AI in Education’ vision, where teachers will utilize visual tools like charts and diagrams to aid students’ comprehension. Assessment methods will include teacher observation journals, group activities, and interactive tasks.

The introduction of this course aims to align school education with emerging technological skills, preparing students for a future where AI plays a crucial role in various sectors.
