Ajmer, April 12: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to announce the results for Class 10 and Class 12 between April 20 and April 25 this year, marking the first time results will be released in April instead of May or later months. The board has completed the evaluation of answer sheets, and the process of ‘marks feeding’ is currently underway.
In a significant change for this academic session, CBSE has introduced a ‘two-exam’ policy for Class 10 students. This initiative aims to benefit those who did not perform as expected in the first examination. After the results are declared, students will have the opportunity to retake the exam.
Here are three key questions regarding the two exams:
Question 1: Is it mandatory to take both exams?
Answer: No, it is entirely up to the student. If satisfied with the score from the first exam, there is no need to take the second exam, which is proposed to be held between May 15 and June 1.
Question 2: What if the score decreases in the second exam?
Answer: Students will not be at a disadvantage. The board will adopt a ‘best of two’ policy, meaning the higher score from either exam will be considered for the final result.
Question 3: Will practical exams need to be taken twice?
Answer: No, practical and internal assessments will be conducted only once during the year (in December-January). The second exam will only cover theory papers.
According to M.A. Raju, an operator of a CBSE-affiliated school, approximately 44 lakh students participated in this year’s exams, with around three lakh students from the Ajmer region alone.
For the second exam, there are three main conditions:
1. Subject Limit: Students can only improve their performance in three subjects from Science, Maths, Social Science, and Languages.
2. Mandatory Attendance: Students who did not appear in three or more subjects in the first main exam will not be allowed to sit for the second exam.
3. Winter-Bound Schools: Students from winter-bound schools in hilly areas will have the flexibility to appear for either exam.
After marks feeding, a committee will review the results, which will take approximately 10-12 days. The CBSE aims to announce the results promptly to facilitate timely admissions for higher education.
