Former Cricketer C.D. Gopinath Passes Away at 96

Mumbai, April 11: Former Indian cricketer C.D. Gopinath has passed away at the age of 96. He was the last surviving player from India’s first Test cricket-winning team, which achieved this historic feat in 1952. Gopinath was born on March 1, 1930, in Madras (now Chennai) and made his Test debut against England at the Brabourne Stadium in 1951, scoring an unbeaten 50 runs in his first innings.

Throughout his , Gopinath represented India in eight Test matches and played 83 first-class matches. He was not only the oldest living Test cricketer in India but also the second oldest in the world after Australia’s Neil Harvey. Gopinath’s contributions to Indian cricket will be remembered as he played a significant role in the early years of the sport in the country.
