INS Aridham Submarine Commissioned into Indian Navy

Mumbai, April 6: The Indian Navy has officially commissioned its third nuclear submarine, INS Aridham, on April 3. This significant addition to the naval fleet was handed over after extensive trials at a naval base in Kerala.

INS Aridham is designed as an anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft, capable of detecting and neutralizing enemy submarines. It is equipped to carry nuclear weapons and can remain deployed in the sea for extended periods.

The submarine is part of India’s nuclear ballistic missile submarine program (SSBN) and enhances the country’s nuclear triad capability, allowing for nuclear strikes from land, sea, and air. Prior to INS Aridham, the navy had inducted INS Arihant in 2016 and INS Arighat in 2024, marking India as one of the nations capable of launching nuclear attacks from multiple platforms.

The commissioning of INS Aridham strengthens India’s maritime defense and showcases its growing prowess in naval technology.
