ISRO and AIIMS Collaborate for Astronaut Biomedical Research

Mumbai, March 14: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. This collaboration aims to enhance the health and safety of astronauts during space missions.

The MoU will focus on conducting biomedical research relevant to the Indian Space Station and upcoming lunar missions. It seeks to address medical challenges faced by crew members during space missions and improve protocols and technologies for astronaut healthcare.

Research will explore how the human body behaves in space, with a multidisciplinary approach to tackle various health issues. The agreement also includes studies on medical facilities available upon the crew’s return to Earth.

Established in 1969, ISRO is headquartered in Bengaluru, with V. Narayanan serving as its chairman.
