NCERT Launches New AI Module for Students

Mumbai, October 25: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced a new 20-hour AI module aimed at students from grades 9 to 12. This initiative is part of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and focuses on teaching students about deepfake identification, data privacy, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) through interactive activities.
In today’s digital age, understanding AI’s role in everyday life is crucial. The module, developed in collaboration with experts from IIT Madras, IIT Jodhpur, and NCERT, is designed to be accessible even for students with no prior knowledge of AI.
The module comprises five key units:
1. AI in Daily Life: Understanding AI patterns from smartphone predictions to music app suggestions.
2. How Machines Learn: Students will train machines using images and observe the importance of training data through intentional errors.
3. When AI Makes Mistakes: A five-step verification method to identify confusion created by AI, including deepfake videos and fake news.
4. Data Privacy and Security: Information on India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023, emphasizing the importance of not sharing sensitive information like Aadhaar numbers and passwords with AI tools.
This module aims to equip students with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of AI responsibly and ethically.
