New Delhi, September 20: The results of the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections for 2026 have been announced, with ABVP candidate Yash Dabas emerging victorious. Voting took place on September 18, recording a turnout of 40.46%. The results were declared today, marking a significant win for the party.
Voting for the central panel was conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) across 52 polling centers. The EVMs were opened today at the North Campus Multipurpose Hall, where the voting process was carried out.
A total of 19 candidates contested for the central panel, with the highest number of candidates running for the president position (7), followed by 5 for vice president, 4 for secretary, and 4 for joint secretary.
In a significant ruling, the Delhi High Court has prohibited victory processions related to the DUSU elections. Consequently, no candidate, whether from college unions or the central panel, is allowed to hold victory parades. Additionally, the court has issued show-cause notices to 140 candidates in connection with incidents of violence during the election campaign.
This year’s election campaign saw a shift in strategy, with candidates opting for AI-based promotions instead of traditional paper posters due to strict regulations from the DU administration. Candidates utilized artificial intelligence and social media reels to connect with the youth, employing short videos, memes, and creative prompts to engage voters.
