Bihars Shubham Kumar Tops JEE Main with 100 Percentile

Mumbai, April 21: Shubham Kumar from Gaya has emerged as the top scorer in Bihar for the JEE Main 2026 examination, achieving a remarkable 100 percentile and securing an All India Rank of 6. The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the combined results for both sessions of JEE Main 2026.

Shubham’s performance in the first session was impressive, and he maintained that excellence in the final results. He is now focused on preparing for the JEE Advanced, with aspirations to enroll in Computer Science at IIT Mumbai.

A total of 26 candidates achieved a perfect score of 100 percentile, but notably, none were female. All full scorers were male. The NTA reported that 250,182 students qualified for JEE Advanced.

Shubham, a student of British English School, credited his success to the unwavering support of his parents and teachers. After receiving his results, he shared the good news with his family first. His father, Shiv Kumar, is involved in the hardware business, while his mother, Kanchan Devi, is a homemaker. Shubham emphasized that the trust and support from his family were his greatest strengths.

He followed a concept-based study approach, adhering to a strict timetable and focusing on weaker subjects. His preparation involved regular mock tests and revisions, dedicating around 10 to 12 hours daily to his studies. Shubham stated, “It’s not about studying 24 hours; rather, the right strategy and consistent practice are essential. I took breaks to refresh myself.” He also received a 100% scholarship from his coaching institute.

Bihar’s Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary, congratulated Shubham on social media, stating, “Shubham Kumar’s achievement in JEE Main 2026 is a moment of pride for all of Bihar. His success symbolizes dedication, hard work, and excellence. I wish him and all successful students a bright future.”

According to the NTA, a total of 1,604,854 candidates registered for Paper-1, with 1,538,468 appearing for the exam. The final results were based on the best NTA scores from both sessions. The cutoff for the general category was set at 93.41 percentile, allowing 96,873 candidates to qualify for JEE Advanced.

The NTA clarified that only candidates meeting the cutoff will be eligible to apply for the advanced examination, where successful candidates will gain admission to prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

In total, 26 students achieved a perfect score across both sessions, with the highest numbers coming from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The JEE Main Session 1 was conducted from January 21 to 29, with over 1.3 million students participating. Candidates can check their results on the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in by entering their application number and password.
