
Mumbai, July 18: The Indian government has appointed Dr. T. Srinivas Kumar Tummla as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES). This significant appointment was made on July 16, and Dr. Kumar will serve in this role for a period of two years.
Dr. Kumar is a senior oceanographer who began his in 1998 as a scientist at ISRO. Over the years, he has worked on various projects related to remote sensing, geospatial technology, and disaster management. He has also led initiatives in ocean information services, marine forecasting, and satellite-based ocean monitoring programs.
The Ministry of Earth Sciences plays a crucial role in forecasting and researching weather, climate, oceans, seismology, and natural disasters. Dr. Kumar’s extensive experience in these fields is expected to enhance the ministry’s efforts in addressing environmental challenges and advancing scientific research in India.
In addition to this appointment, the country is gearing up for the first test flight of the Vikram-1 rocket, developed by Skyroot Aerospace, which is set to take place today. This mission marks a significant milestone in India’s private space sector.
