New Delhi, July 25: Amid ongoing protests related to the NEET paper leak case, the University of Delhi (DU) has issued an advisory urging students and faculty to avoid demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. The university warned that participation in such events could lead to legal action.
In a statement, DU emphasized the importance of safety, stating, “Dear students and faculty, your safety matters to us. Please note that any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, which are strictly regulated as per the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, may invite legal action.”
The advisory highlighted that such activities pose risks not only to students’ safety but also to their educational records and future s. Students were also cautioned against misleading information circulating on social media.
Active student organizations involved in the protests include the Students Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Association (AISA), All India Students Federation (AISF), Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), and various independent student groups from DU.
Similarly, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) issued a statement advising its community members to act responsibly and prioritize personal safety. The advisory reiterated the Supreme Court’s directives regarding public demonstrations, urging individuals to refrain from participating in gatherings at Jantar Mantar or its vicinity.
In response to the advisories, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized DU’s stance, accusing the university of intimidating students for exercising their democratic rights. He tweeted, “How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights? Please note, you are the ones that will be held accountable when the time comes.”
