Ahemdabad, June 29: The Indian state of Gujarat has officially launched Bharat Taxi, the country’s first government-operated cab service. This innovative ride-hailing platform, inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on June 27, aims to empower drivers by allowing them to retain the entire fare after paying a nominal membership fee.
Initially, the service will be available in 14 major cities across Gujarat. Bharat Taxi has been developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Cooperation and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), under the theme “Saarthi Hi Malik.” The platform will offer a range of transportation options, including cabs, auto-rickshaws, and bike taxis.
Additionally, the service plans to provide cooperative benefits to drivers, such as insurance loans and pension schemes, enhancing their financial security and stability. This initiative marks a significant step towards improving the livelihood of drivers in the region while promoting a sustainable transportation model.
