India and Canada to Collaborate in Education Sector

New Delhi, October 22: Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi held a meeting with Canada’s High Commissioner Christopher Cooter and Trade Commissioner Amy Antonini to discuss strengthening higher education ties between the two countries. The discussions focused on expanding research partnerships and promoting student exchanges.

After the meeting, Minister Joshi highlighted that a key topic was the implementation of memorandums of understanding announced during discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The emphasis was on enhancing collaboration between academic institutions in both countries and creating new opportunities for students and researchers.

The meeting also addressed facilitating the entry of Canadian universities into India and expanding academic activities under the National Education Policy 2020. The goal is to enhance cooperation between higher education institutions in both countries and pave the way for new educational partnerships. Additionally, joint research efforts were discussed to promote knowledge exchange and innovation.

Strengthening student mobility and relationships between academic institutions in both countries was also a priority. This aims to provide more academic collaboration opportunities for students and researchers from India and Canada. Joshi reiterated the commitment to deepen educational cooperation and increase opportunities for students and researchers.

This meeting is part of efforts to advance education, research, and innovation as key areas of collaboration in India-Canada relations. Special attention was given to implementing the announced memorandums of understanding, revitalizing higher education relations, and expanding partnerships between academic institutions in both countries.

Notably, last month, India and France also discussed potential collaborations in higher education, with the Indian Education Minister inviting French institutions to open campuses in India. That dialogue in New Delhi focused on strengthening institutional ties and facilitating the mobility of students, teachers, and researchers between the two nations.
