India Ranks 125th in Global Passport Index

Mumbai, July 6: India has been ranked 125th in the recently released Global Passport Index 2026. This ranking, published on July 5, shows a decline from last year when India held the 124th position. The index primarily evaluates countries based on visa-free travel, investment opportunities, and living standards. The top ten countries in the index include Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark (joint), Ireland, the UK, Norway, and Singapore. Indian passport holders require visas to travel to 88 destinations, including the USA, UK, Germany, France, China, Andorra, and the UAE. The Global Passport Index is compiled by Global Citizen Solutions, taking into account factors like global mobility and living standards.

In other news, Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr. Teejan Bai, renowned for her contribution to Chhattisgarh’s folk art and Pandwani singing, passed away on July 4 at the age of 70. Dr. Bai was celebrated for her powerful voice and impactful performances, bringing recognition to Pandwani both nationally and internationally. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1987, the Padma Bhushan in 2003, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2019 for her exceptional contributions to Indian folk art.
