Indian Navy Receives Indigenous Frigate Mahendragiri

Mumbai, May 2: The Indian Navy has officially received the indigenous advanced stealth frigate ‘Mahendragiri’ from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) on May 1. This vessel is the sixth and final ship under Project 17A (P17A). The Mahendragiri is a significant addition to the Indian Navy, embodying the spirit of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) with approximately 75% of its components sourced domestically. The frigate is named after the Mahendragiri peak in the Eastern Ghats of Odisha, highlighting India’s rich geographical heritage. This handover marks a crucial step in enhancing the capabilities of the Indian Navy and underscores the nation’s commitment to strengthening its maritime defense.
