Mumbai, August 31: The Jharkhand government has announced the introduction of open and semi-open barracks in four central jails across the state. This initiative aims to provide prisoners with a more open environment, facilitating their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
In open barracks, inmates will enjoy greater freedom compared to traditional jail settings, allowing them opportunities to work, learn skills, and lead responsible lives. The primary objective of this initiative is to focus on reform and rehabilitation alongside punishment.
Semi-open barracks will have less security and monitoring than traditional barracks, but will still impose certain restrictions compared to open jails. This move is expected to benefit well-behaved and eligible prisoners, promoting their successful reintegration into society.
Additionally, in a significant development, Shashidhar Jagdishan, the Managing Director and CEO of HDFC Bank, has decided to step down from his position. His current term is set to conclude on October 26, 2026, the same day he will retire. Jagdishan will not be applying for a third term. He took over as CEO in October 2020, succeeding Aditya Puri, and has played a crucial role in the merger of HDFC Limited and HDFC Bank earlier this year.
These developments are essential for students preparing for government job examinations, as they reflect ongoing changes in both the correctional and banking sectors.
