Mumbai, July 22: Kanishk Narayan, an Indian-origin MP, has been appointed as the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Minister of the United Kingdom. This historic appointment was made on July 20, following an expansion of Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s cabinet. Narayan, who previously served as the Minister for AI and Online Safety since September 2025, was born in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and moved to Cardiff, Wales, with his family at the age of 12. He made history in 2024 by becoming the first minority MP from Wales. Before entering politics, Narayan worked for the British government and is a member of the Labour Party. His appointment marks a significant step in the UK’s commitment to advancing AI governance.
