Mumbai, September 22: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has launched two revised textbooks for Class 9 for the 2026-27 academic session. According to an official notification, the new Maths book titled “Mathematics Manjari – Part 2” is now available for purchase as of September 21, 2026. The new Social Science book, “Understanding Society: India & Beyond – Part 2,” will be available starting September 30, 2026.
Books can be purchased from platforms like Amazon, NCERT sales counters, or the official NCERT website. The new textbooks have been developed in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
However, students have expressed frustration over the delay in the release of the Social Science book, which has come months after the academic session began. With mid-term exams set to start on September 23, students are concerned about the impact on their studies due to the unavailability of the new Part 2 book.
The new session for Class 9 commenced in April 2026, and students began their studies based on the syllabus after schools reopened. In June 2026, NCERT warned about counterfeit copies of Part 1 of the Class 9 Social Science book circulating in the market, urging students to obtain only official resources.
Complaints from students and parents have increased due to the lack of availability of the new book. An online petition titled “Demand justice for class 9, new NCERT book part 2 delayed” was filed on Change.org on September 21, 2026, highlighting the unavailability of the Social Science Part 2 book even after the academic session had begun.
