Jaipur, August 30: The NEET PG 2026 examination faced significant disruptions at the ION Digital Zone center in Sitapura, Jaipur, leading to its cancellation. Candidates reported that the exam was interrupted ten times within two hours due to repeated computer failures.
Initially scheduled to start at 9 AM, the exam commenced an hour late, around 10 AM. Candidates claimed that after restarting some computers, only three to four questions appeared on the screen, while others faced complete shutdowns. The center staff reportedly did not provide any explanation for the technical issues.
Protesters alleged that they were threatened with police action if they continued to voice their grievances. Many candidates expressed concerns about the potential impact of these disruptions on their rankings, which could affect their choices of medical specialties and colleges.
According to ACP Lalit Sharma, officials were aware of the server malfunctions, which caused discrepancies in the functioning of the computers.
Candidates also complained about inadequate facilities at the exam center, including poor air conditioning and a lack of drinking water.
In response to the situation, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announced a re-examination for affected candidates, scheduled for September 5. This decision follows protests outside the examination center after the initial exam concluded.
The NEET PG 2026 was conducted across 399 cities nationwide, with approximately 266,000 doctors participating. This year, NBEMS implemented strict measures to prevent malpractice, including live CCTV monitoring.
Earlier in August, the central government had announced significant reforms for NEET PG 2026, including conducting the exam in a single shift to enhance transparency and allowing candidates to select their exam centers to facilitate easier access.
