Mumbai, April 28: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinay Kumar Saxena, has announced the approval for the creation of five new districts in the Union Territory. This decision, made on April 27, aims to address the long-standing demand for administrative convenience in the region.
The newly formed districts will include Shyok, Nubra, Changthang, Zanskar, and Dras, bringing the total number of districts in Ladakh to seven. The separation of Nubra from Kargil has been a significant request from the local population for many years.
Residents have faced challenges due to the vast geographical area, often requiring them to travel to Leh or Kargil for government services. The establishment of these new districts is expected to facilitate easier access to administrative services and improve overall governance in the region.
This move has been welcomed by the local community, who anticipate that it will enhance their ability to address their needs more effectively.
