Gurugram, August 26: Heavy rainfall in the Delhi-NCR region over the past few days has led to severe waterlogging on the streets of Gurugram. A viral video has surfaced showing nursery students in school uniforms sitting inside a shop surrounded by water, with one girl crying out for her mother.
The incident occurred when the driver of a school van from Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sector 14 picked up children around 1:30 PM. The van became stranded in water near Sheetala Mata Temple due to the heavy downpour. To ensure the children’s safety, the driver moved them into a nearby shop, which was also flooded, causing fear and distress among the kids.
Parents faced significant delays in reaching their children, with some taking over three hours due to waterlogging and traffic congestion. This incident has highlighted the shortcomings in the city’s drainage system and emergency urban management.
In another instance, Class 2 students from Delhi Public School in Sector 45 were also stuck for hours due to traffic jams caused by the rain. Reports indicate that water levels reached nearly four feet in some areas, leading to the stranding of at least 12 school buses in the region.
Gurugram experienced approximately 85-90 mm of rainfall within an hour and a half, severely disrupting road connectivity and exposing deficiencies in the city’s drainage and monsoon preparedness. Questions have been raised regarding the measures taken by schools and authorities to ensure the safe return of children amid the weather warnings.
