Mumbai, October 5: In a significant development, David Robinson, a safety expert at OpenAI, has resigned from his position, citing concerns over the company’s culture. Robinson, who worked at OpenAI for approximately 3.5 years, led safety reports associated with the launch of major AI models. Following his resignation on October 3, he published an article titled “I Quit OpenAI Because Its Culture Is Broken,” emphasizing the need for a better scientific understanding and robust safety measures before advancing AI capabilities. He criticized the tech industry’s rush to develop new AI technologies while overlooking associated risks.

In another notable event, India and Cyprus held their first joint maritime meeting on October 4 in Limassol. The meeting was co-chaired by Venkatashpathy S., Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways from India, and Theodoulos Mesimeris, Acting Secretary of the Shipping Deputy Ministry from Cyprus. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in maritime education and training, shipping policies, and investment opportunities, as well as collaboration under the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The meeting also addressed maritime security and navigation in the Mediterranean and Indian Oceans, and proposed a Maritime Business Forum to be held in Mumbai in November 2026.
