New Delhi, September 24: In a significant achievement for the agricultural sector, five cooperative sugar mills from Punjab were awarded national honors at the National Cooperative Sugar Industry Conclave 2026 held in New Delhi on September 23. The awards recognize excellence in financial management, the development of advanced sugarcane varieties, and the use of cutting-edge technology in sugar production.
Punjab’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Gurmeet Singh, along with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, presented the awards. The National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF) secured the top position, while Batala Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited was recognized for its financial management. The other awardees included Budhewal Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited, Nakodar Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited, and Bhogpur Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited.
Currently, the area under sugarcane cultivation in Punjab is projected to increase from 111,818 hectares in 2025-26 to 116,131 hectares in 2026-27, signaling a positive trend in the sugar industry.
