New Delhi, August 14: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu, has approved a decision to grant a 20% reservation for ex-Agni Veers during direct recruitment in two major departments of the Delhi government. This decision is part of the policy formulated by the Government of India for the rehabilitation of former Agni Veers.
The Delhi Home Department has also issued a notification regarding this matter. This decision will not only provide permanent government jobs in Delhi for youth transitioning from the military but will also offer special concessions in the age limit and the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) during the recruitment process. The Lieutenant Governor has made this provision under Article 309 of the Constitution.
Departments to Determine PET Concessions
The extent of concessions in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for ex-Agni Veers will be determined by the respective departments. If there are not enough eligible ex-Agni Veers for a recruitment drive, those seats will be filled according to the Government of India’s horizontal reservation guidelines.
50% Reservation Announced in CAPF
Last month, the central government announced a 50% reservation for ex-Agni Veers in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles for the positions of Constable (GD) and Rifleman (GD).
Additionally, several state governments, including Haryana, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, have also announced special reservations and age limit concessions for Agni Veers in their police and other security services.
According to the Home Ministry, ex-Agni Veers will be exempt from the Physical Standard Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and written examinations, making the recruitment process significantly easier than before.
Special Wing Established in Home Ministry
To enhance the future and employment opportunities for ex-Agni Veers, the Home Ministry has established an Ex-Agni Veer Wing. This wing will coordinate their appointments in various security forces and other opportunities.
In Haryana, provisions for 1% reservation in Group B, 5% in Group C, and 20% in police constable recruitment have been made for ex-Agni Veers.
Announcement Before Term Completion
The first batch of Agni Veers recruited under the ‘Agneepath Scheme’ will complete their four-year term by the end of this year. The government has proactively prepared pathways for their employment in central paramilitary forces and Assam Rifles, keeping their future in mind.
