Dungarpur, August 26: A roof collapse incident occurred at an upper primary school in the Sattu Devki village of Dungarpur district, Rajasthan, causing panic among students and teachers. At the time of the incident, approximately 120 students were present in their classrooms. The loud noise of the falling roof prompted immediate evacuation, with both students and teachers rushing out of the classrooms.
Fortunately, no students or teachers were injured as the classroom where the roof collapsed was empty at the time. The school has a total of ten classrooms, but two of them had been in a dilapidated condition for a long time and were closed for classes. This preemptive measure likely prevented a major disaster.
Following the incident, teachers informed PEEO Pankaj Verma, who, along with CBE0 Deepak Shah, visited the school to assess the situation. They inspected the damaged classrooms and gathered information from the school management.
This incident marks the second roof collapse in Rajasthan schools this year. Previously, on July 25, 2023, a roof collapse at a school in Jhalawar district resulted in the tragic deaths of seven children. The incident occurred at the Government Higher Primary School in Piplod village, where the roof and walls fell due to the building’s poor condition exacerbated by heavy rainfall.
Authorities are now under pressure to ensure the safety and structural integrity of school buildings across the state to prevent such incidents in the future.
