Ranchi, August 1: Thousands of students are protesting on the streets of Ranchi against irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations. The unrest follows the release of results for the 14th Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).
The protests are centered at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, where students have gathered in large numbers, receiving support from various political parties. In response to the demonstrations, police are on high alert.
Students have warned the government that if immediate improvements are not made to the examination system, their protests will escalate. Currently, they are engaged in an indefinite movement. Many students are camping at the stadium, preparing their own meals, and continuing their studies despite the challenging conditions, including rain. They have set up makeshift tents to shield themselves from the weather.
The students have made it clear that they will not end their protest until their demands are met and a guarantee of improvements in the examination system is provided.
Assembly Siege Planned for August 6
As part of their ongoing struggle, students plan to stage a siege of the Jharkhand Assembly during the monsoon session on August 6. Thousands of students from various districts are expected to join the protest, prompting police to prepare for any potential unrest.
Impact of the Protests – Exams Postponed
The JPSC has postponed the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Main (Written) Competitive Examination-2025. Following the protests, L. Khiyangte, the former president of the JPSC, has resigned, and the CID is investigating the alleged irregularities in the examinations.
CID and Ranchi police teams have conducted searches at both the JPSC office and Khiyangte’s residence, leading to the arrest of approximately a dozen individuals so far.
