Jhalawar, August 11: In a dramatic rescue operation, nearly 80 students were saved from a government school in Jhalawar after heavy rainfall caused a nearby stream to overflow, flooding the school premises. The incident occurred in the village of Jhikni, located in the Manoharthana area of Jhalawar district.
Classes were ongoing when the water level in the stream suddenly rose, leading to panic among the students as the school was quickly inundated. Local villagers, along with seven teachers from the school, displayed remarkable courage and teamwork to evacuate the children safely.
To navigate the swift currents, the teachers and villagers formed a human chain, carefully pulling each child to safety. All students were eventually returned home unharmed. However, the force of the water caused significant damage, including the collapse of a 50-foot boundary wall surrounding the school.
The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with users criticizing the lack of basic infrastructure and drainage facilities in schools. One user remarked, “This is not a waterfall; it’s a government school in Jhalawar. The government claims to provide quality education, yet schools lack fundamental amenities.”
This is not the first incident of its kind in the region. Earlier this year, the roof of a school in the same district collapsed, resulting in the tragic deaths of seven students and injuries to 17 others. Following that incident, all five teachers present during the collapse were suspended for negligence.
As the community rallies to address these issues, the need for improved safety measures and infrastructure in schools has never been more urgent.
