Mumbai, August 4: Willie Walsh has officially taken over as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IndiGo, India’s largest airline, as of August 3. His appointment follows the resignation of former CEO Pieter Elbers earlier this year.
Walsh, whose full name is William Matthew Walsh, began his as a pilot with Aer Lingus in 1979. He has an extensive background in the aviation industry, having served as the CEO of British Airways from 2005 to 2011 and most recently as the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
IndiGo, established in 2006, is known for its low-cost carrier model and operates over 90 domestic and more than 40 international destinations. The airline is headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana, and was founded by Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal.
Walsh’s leadership is anticipated to steer IndiGo towards further growth and innovation in the competitive airline industry.
