Miami, August 4: Nathan Thomas has made history by becoming the youngest male professor in the world, as recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. At just 18 years and 346 days old, he began teaching engineering at Miami Dade College, breaking a record that had stood for 306 years.
Born on September 9, 2004, Nathan’s academic journey began at a remarkably young age. He enrolled at Miami Dade College at the age of 10 through a special program, later transferring to Florida International University at 14 to continue his studies.
Nathan’s interest in technology, engineering, and mathematics was nurtured by his parents, both of whom are engineers. He credits his mother for helping him understand complex concepts in a simplified manner, which has contributed significantly to his academic achievements.
Now at 21, Nathan teaches a course titled COP 2270: C for Engineers, which covers computing and programming concepts for engineering students. He is also pursuing a law degree, aiming to specialize in intellectual property law, particularly in STEM-related matters.
Before Nathan, the record for the youngest professor was held by Macnoren, who became a professor in 1717 at the age of 18 years and 362 days. Nathan is six days younger than the current youngest female professor, Alia Sabour, who achieved her title in 2008.
Nathan’s approach to problem-solving, developed through his engineering background, is now being applied in his law studies. He expects to complete his law degree by 2028 and enjoys playing basketball, tennis, golf, and the piano in his free time.
