Gaya, July 31: Students from the Gen Alpha group at Tikari Middle School in Gaya district, Bihar, staged a unique protest demanding basic facilities at their school. Frustrated with poor mid-day meals, broken benches, and a lack of drinking water, the students began chanting slogans.
They insisted on calling the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Praveen Kundan to the school, refusing to speak with junior officials. Responding to their determination, SDM Kundan visited the school to hear the students’ grievances.
Students Raised Slogans Against Administration
The students voiced their concerns against both the school and district administration, stating that essential facilities had been lacking for a long time. Despite multiple complaints, no action had been taken.
The students expressed that studying without fans during the heat was challenging, and the malfunctioning hand pump created a persistent drinking water issue. Many benches in classrooms were broken, causing difficulties for students to sit and study.
Five-Day Deadline for Resolution
SDM Kundan instructed the school headmaster to resolve all student complaints within five days. A three-member inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the matter.
In a related incident, students at PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School in Mangalwa, Jalore, protested due to a shortage of teachers. They locked the main gate for four hours and demanded the appointment of regular teachers.
School Reopened After Agreement
Following the protest, local officials, including the Tehsildar and Block Education Officer, arrived at the scene. After lengthy discussions, an agreement was reached, with the administration assuring the immediate appointment of four teachers and the arrival of three more within ten days. The students then ended their protest and reopened the school gate in the presence of the Block Education Officer, bringing the situation to a peaceful resolution.
