Fatehpur, July 29: Students at Sarvodaya Inter College in Fatehpur staged a protest demanding clean water and electricity, highlighting their grievances over poor facilities. The protest was sparked by a video that surfaced after a previous demonstration at Jantar Mantar regarding a paper leak issue.
In the video, students can be seen chanting slogans against the school administration, claiming that the toilets are unclean and that they face threats of failing if they oppose the principal. Banners held by the students read, “Improve college facilities, secure children’s future.”
The protest began early in the morning, shortly after the school gates opened, with students voicing their concerns over contaminated water, inadequate electricity, and the principal’s harsh treatment. They reported that the school’s fans were in such poor condition that some students had suffered electric shocks.
The students also pointed out the lack of essential facilities, including a computer lab, library, and sports amenities. They warned the administration that they would continue their protest until their demands were met.
Initially, the principal and local police attempted to disperse the students, but they remained steadfast in their demands. The protest continued until the District Inspector of Schools, Rakesh Kumar, arrived and assured the students that their issues would be addressed within 24 hours.
Following the protest, the school was closed for a day. In a subsequent video, Kumar announced that all student demands had been accepted, including the installation of fans in classrooms, improvements to wiring, and the provision of clean drinking water.
Kumar emphasized that if any illegal fees were being charged, an investigation would be conducted, and strict action would be taken against those responsible.
The protest showcased the determination of students born in the Generation Alpha cohort, who are advocating for their rights and better educational facilities.
