Mumbai, August 6: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to implement a new credit system for school students from grades 9 to 12. Under the National Credit Ranking Framework (NCRF), students will earn credits not only for their main subjects but also for vocational skills, practical activities, sports, and experiential learning.
According to the framework, students can earn 40 credits for 1,200 learning hours in an academic session. This initiative allows students to accumulate credits for both core and vocational subjects, with additional credits available for those taking extra subjects.
Opportunities for Lateral Entry in Professional Courses
These credits will assist students in gaining admission to higher education after completing their 12th grade. The credits will enhance their merit for lateral entry into various professional courses during the admission registration process.
What is NCRF?
The National Credit Framework (NCRF) is a credit-based structure initiated by the Government of India under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It was implemented in 2023 by the Ministry of Education, the University Grants Commission (UGC), and other regulatory bodies.
Integration of General and Vocational Education
The NCRF aims to integrate credits earned in school education, higher education, and vocational or skill education. This framework encourages the combination of general education and vocational education to facilitate multiple entry-exit points and professional development. Students will receive credits for their studies, practical work, and skill development activities.
