
Bhopal, August 12: In a significant development for the education sector, the Government of India has appointed Deepti Gaur Mukherjee as the new Secretary of Higher Education. This announcement was made on August 10, 2023. Mukherjee, a 1993 batch IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, previously served as the Secretary of Corporate Affairs. She takes over the position from Vineet Joshi, who was appointed Secretary of the Panchayati Raj Ministry last month.
Deepti Gaur Mukherjee has held several key positions, including Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA), where she was responsible for implementing the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Her extensive experience also includes roles as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Under Secretary in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department in Bhopal.
This appointment is expected to bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the higher education sector, as Mukherjee has previously worked in various capacities across different departments, including as a director in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
