JSSC CGL Candidates Protest for Justice

Ranchi, August 18: Candidates who passed the JSSC CGL examination are protesting outside Project Bhawan in Ranchi, demanding justice after the cancellation of their exam on August 17, 2026. While some protesters celebrated the cancellation, those who had secured jobs through the exam expressed their distress.

Emotions ran high as many candidates were seen crying, voicing their fears of returning to unemployment. One protester, visibly upset, urged the government to reconsider its decision, claiming it undermines a court order.

The candidates formed a human chain, appealing to Chief Minister Hemant Soren not to make decisions under pressure that could jeopardize their employment. They emphasized that this issue is not just about jobs but also about their rights and future, vowing to continue their fight. Tensions escalated between the protesting candidates and police forces outside the secretariat.

On the other hand, a celebratory atmosphere emerged among students whose demands were met. The government, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, announced the cancellation of the JSSC CGL exam during a special cabinet meeting. This decision sparked joy among students who had been protesting for the past 24 days.

Student leader Devendra Mahto ended his hunger strike after discussions with fellow protesters, although they remain firm on their demand for a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC exams.

Ravindra Paswan, another student leader, stated that while they have won a significant battle, the fight is not over. He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for listening to their demands after 24 days of protests, but emphasized that the demand for a CBI inquiry remains unresolved.
