Mumbai, August 22: Renovation work has commenced at the Government Higher Secondary School in Jodhawas, following protests by students who highlighted the school’s dilapidated condition. Ashutosh Ranka, spokesperson for the CJP, shared a video on his X account showing the ongoing repairs. The school building, which had been in a state of disrepair, has been partially demolished, and work on the washrooms and playground is expected to be completed soon.
The condition of the school had deteriorated to such an extent that ceiling panels were falling in classrooms, and walls were cracked. Students and local residents expressed their concerns through strong protests against the education department and local administration.
Despite previous complaints about the school’s condition, no action had been taken until the students, along with villagers, staged a demonstration at the school’s main gate. They directly questioned officials, asking if they would provide such facilities for their own children.
In response to the protests, local authorities, including the Chief District Education Officer and other administrative officials, met with the students to discuss their demands, leading to a temporary halt of the protests.
Ashutosh Ranka actively participated in the demonstration, even confronting police officials. A video of this encounter circulated on social media, where he warned the police not to engage in politics, stating that the education minister’s position could be at risk if improvements were not made soon.
The ongoing situation highlights the urgent need for better infrastructure and facilities in schools, as students and their families continue to advocate for their right to a safe learning environment.
