
Mumbai, April 20: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung arrived in India on April 19 for a state visit, marking his first trip to the country. Accompanied by First Lady Kim Hae-kyung and a high-level delegation, President Lee met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the first day of his visit.
The discussions focused on various sectors, including shipbuilding, business, investment, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors. The visit aims to enhance existing cooperation and expand into new and emerging areas. President Lee is also scheduled to engage in talks on cultural exchange and regional issues during his stay.
Additionally, he will meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and President Droupadi Murmu. This visit follows the trip of former President Moon Jae-in to India in July 2018.
In related news, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan embarked on a two-day visit to Colombo, Sri Lanka, on April 19. This marks the first visit by an Indian Vice President to Sri Lanka. During his trip, Radhakrishnan met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and is set to hold discussions with Prime Minister Harin Fernando.
The Vice President’s visit is part of India’s Vision Ocean and Neighbourhood First policy, aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations, which have shared civilizational relations for over 2,500 years.
Furthermore, on April 18, the foundation stone for India’s first petroglyph conservation park was laid in Ladakh. This initiative aims to preserve ancient rock art along the banks of the Indus River, with approximately 400 sites identified in the region. The park will protect these historical artifacts and make them accessible to tourists.
