Damoh, August 26: Frustrated by the poor condition of a muddy road leading to their school, students in Madhya Pradesh staged a protest by blocking the road with their bicycles. This incident occurred in the village of Majhgawa Patol, under the Hatta police station in Damoh district. The protest halted traffic in both directions along the road.
The approximately one-kilometer stretch leading to the school is in a dilapidated state, becoming muddy and difficult to navigate during the rainy season, causing significant challenges for students commuting to school.
The demonstration began on August 22, 2026, at around 11:30 AM. As heavy rain started around noon, a large number of students gathered on the main road of the village.
Crowd Gathers in Support of Students
Videos of the students protesting in their school uniforms amidst the rain went viral on social media. Upon learning about the protest, a crowd of villagers gathered in support, affirming the students’ demands. They highlighted that the rough road is not only used by children but also by local residents and farmers, who face difficulties while passing through.
Administration Promises Action
The students, holding placards, demanded the construction of a proper road. In response to the situation, Executive Magistrate and Tehsildar Umesh Tiwari visited the site, accompanied by Patwari Sudhir Raj. The Tehsildar inspected the muddy road with the students, assuring them of immediate arrangements for an alternative route. Following this assurance, the students ended their protest. However, their primary demand remains the construction of a permanent road to the school.
Both students and villagers believe that a permanent road would alleviate the annual difficulties faced during the rainy season.
