Mandla, September 1: A disturbing video from a school in Mandla, Madhya Pradesh, has gone viral, showing students studying outside under a tarpaulin due to the dilapidated condition of their school building.
The footage, filmed at Talaiya Tola School, depicts children sitting beneath a makeshift roof while their teachers supervise them. The building, which is supposed to be a place of learning, is in such poor condition that it poses a risk to the students’ safety.
Classes for grades one to five are being conducted in this precarious setting, with approximately 25-28 students and two teachers forced to adapt to the situation. The school’s walls are cracked, and during the rainy season, water leaks from the ceiling, making it impossible for the children to study inside.
Teachers have expressed their concerns, stating that they have repeatedly written to the government for repairs, but their pleas have gone unheard. They strive to provide a safe learning environment, even going so far as to set up the tarpaulin themselves each day.
In addition to the structural hazards, the area poses risks from snakes and scorpions, further complicating the teachers’ efforts to ensure the children’s safety while they learn.
The situation highlights a critical need for government intervention to address the infrastructure issues in schools, ensuring that children can study in a safe and conducive environment.
