Mumbai, September 23: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the sample question papers (SQP) and marking scheme for the academic session 2026-27 for Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations.
Students can access the sample papers and the designated marking scheme on the official CBSE academic website, cbseacademic.nic.in.
Question Paper Format and Section Structure Released
CBSE has also issued subject-wise sample question papers for both classes. Students appearing for the 2027 board examinations can use these as a detailed reference. The released marking scheme outlines how answers will be evaluated and how marks will be allocated in the upcoming CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exams.
Additionally, students can understand the question paper format, types of questions, section-wise structure, and classification of potential marks for the board examination.
CBSE is expected to release a detailed timetable for both classes by October 2026.

No Changes to Passing Criteria
The board has confirmed that there will be no changes to the assessment scheme or passing criteria, which will remain the same as those used in the 2025-26 session.

OSM Controversy and Changes in Leadership
This year, for the first time, CBSE evaluated answer sheets through On-Screen Marking (OSM). On May 13, 2026, the results of the Class 12 board examination were announced, involving the digital evaluation of 9.8 million answer sheets. Following the results, several students alleged that some answers were not checked, leading to significant controversy.
As a result of the OSM controversy, CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta were transferred, and a committee was formed to investigate the tender and procurement process for OSM services. Senior IAS officer Lokhande Prashant Sitaram has been appointed as the new chairman, and Varun Bhardwaj as the new secretary.
