DRDO Unveils Indias First Indigenous Glide Weapon System

Mumbai, May 9: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully developed India’s first indigenous glide weapon system, named TARA, in collaboration with the Indian Air Force. The weapon was tested on May 7 off the coast of Odisha using a Jaguar fighter jet.

TARA is designed to convert unguided munitions into precision-guided weapons, enhancing the capabilities of Indian fighter jets such as Sukhoi-30, Jaguar, and Tejas. This system can strike ground targets from a distance of 120 kilometers, marking a significant advancement in India’s defense technology.

In related news, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has included animal cruelty as a distinct category in its ‘Crime in India 2024’ report, aiming to improve animal protection measures. This inclusion will help in identifying and monitoring crimes against animals, with 9,039 cases reported in 2024.
