Ahmedabad, June 3: The inaugural World Yoga Championship is set to commence in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, starting June 4. Athletes from over 40 countries, including a team from the United States, will participate in this prestigious event. The championship aims to establish competitive rules and scoring standards for yoga asana globally. This initiative is part of India’s broader campaign to gain international recognition for yoga as a sport, with aspirations to include it in the 2036 Olympics. The event is being organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Ayush, and the Yoga Asana Federation. Additionally, on May 27, the Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced the inclusion of yoga asana in the 2030 Commonwealth Games, where India will serve as the host nation.
