Chennai, August 27: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has officially commenced the online registration for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. Initially scheduled to start on August 14, the registration was postponed, and candidates can now apply through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) starting today.
Mandatory Registration via DigiLocker
This year, candidates are required to register through DigiLocker. The last date for registration is September 27. Information such as the candidate’s name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, profile photo, address, and verified ID card number will be automatically filled from DigiLocker.
GATE Exam Fees
- Women/SC/ST/PWD: ₹1,000
- Other candidates: ₹2,000
- Candidates opting for two papers will need to pay double the fee.

New Subjects Introduced
This year, a new paper titled ‘Robotics and Automation’ (RA) has been introduced, while ‘Textile Engineering and Fiber Science’ (TF) is now included as a sectional paper under ‘Engineering Sciences’ (XE).
The GATE exam, which began in 1983, will see its 45th edition in 2027. The GATE 2027 exam will be conducted solely in English, and candidates can choose to appear for one or two papers based on the specified combinations.
