Mumbai, July 24: The Chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), L Khiangte, has resigned amid ongoing controversies surrounding the commission. The resignation has been accepted by the Governor, and in the wake of this scandal, the JPSC has postponed a total of nine recruitment examinations, including the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Main Examination, until further notice.
Concerns were raised following the results of the 14th Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination, released on July 2, 2026. Many candidates alleged irregularities, claiming that the cut-off marks were not made public and that there was a lack of transparency in the OMR sheet evaluation process. Some candidates who claimed to have scored higher were not selected, while others with lower scores were.
Accusations have also surfaced against the agency responsible for conducting the exams, which had previously been blacklisted in Uttar Pradesh. A member of the commission expressed concerns about the fairness of the examination process in a letter to the Chief Minister.
In response to the escalating controversy, the Jharkhand government has assigned the CID to investigate the matter. The CID has conducted raids at the JPSC office and other locations, resulting in the arrest of several individuals connected to the examination process, including the Deputy Controller of Examinations. Allegations suggest serious discrepancies in the conduct of the exams and data processing.
The CID is currently investigating several key points, including potential digital tampering and alterations to the OMR sheets post-examination, as well as the financial aspects related to money laundering. Questions have been raised about the JPSC’s decision to allow a blacklisted company to conduct the examinations.
The JPSC has assured candidates that new dates for the postponed examinations will be announced soon and has urged them to rely solely on information released through the official website of the commission.
