Begusarai, May 9: A tragic incident in a government school in Begusarai, Bihar, resulted in the death of a 12-year-old student due to negligence. The incident occurred on May 6 at Jahangpur Secondary School in Arwa village. A stack of iron grills fell in the classroom, leading to the immediate death of sixth-grade student Vivan Raj, also known as Munna.
According to reports, during the lunch break, the school corridor was crowded. To avoid the crowd, Vivan entered a nearby classroom where heavy iron grills were stored for a science lab. While trying to pick up his pen that had fallen near the grills, the entire stack suddenly collapsed on him. The sharp edges of the grills caused fatal injuries, resulting in his death on the spot.
Following the incident, panic ensued in the school premises. Local villagers, upon hearing the news, gathered and surrounded the school in protest.
In the chaos, several teachers fled the scene. It is alleged that angry villagers cornered the school headmaster, Amit Kumar, and computer teacher, Avnish Kumar, and physically assaulted them.
The villagers protested further by placing the student’s body on the road, blocking traffic for several hours. Police from Bachhwara station arrived, but additional forces were called from Teghra and Bhagwanpur to control the situation.
Administrative officials later assured the family and villagers of action and compensation, which led to the end of the protest. The body was subsequently sent for post-mortem.
In response to the negligence, the district administration has initiated action. Preliminary investigations revealed lapses on the part of the school administration, leading to the immediate suspension of Principal Amit Kumar by District Education Officer Manoj Kumar. Departmental proceedings have also been initiated against him.
