Chhatarpur, August 17: Students from the secondary school in Basrahi, located in the Chandla assembly constituency of Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district, halted the convoy of BJP Minister Dilip Ahirwar to voice their grievances regarding the poor condition of their school. The students expressed their concerns about the lack of basic facilities, and a video of the protest has gone viral on social media.
The students initially raised demands for the construction of roads leading to their school and improvements to the existing road conditions. They urged the minister to address the road issues promptly.
The students stated that they stopped the minister because they had previously raised these concerns multiple times without any resolution.
In a related incident, students from the Gen Alpha group in Lucknow protested on August 17 due to a shortage of teachers. Around 250 students gathered at the Dubagga-Kanpur bypass intersection early in the morning, blocking the road despite heavy rain. They walked approximately 2.5 kilometers from their school, Jay Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Balika Vidyalaya, to reach the protest site.
The protest led to a traffic jam extending 2 to 3 kilometers around the bypass. Police arrived from four different stations to manage the situation and attempted to persuade the students to disperse for nearly two hours. However, the students remained firm in their demand to have the District Magistrate (DM) meet them.
As negotiations failed, the students began to march towards the DM’s residence in Hazratganj. Following them, police officers also ran to keep up. When they reached the Balaganj intersection, 8 kilometers away, ACP Kakori and ADC Dhananjay intervened and communicated with officials from the Social Welfare Department on their behalf.
Despite the heavy rain, officials assured the students that they would address their concerns directly. After a lengthy discussion, the students agreed to return to school, and they were transported back via e-buses.
Officials, including Principal Secretary Anurag Yadav and other department heads, met with the students at their school, engaging in discussions for about two and a half hours.
The students highlighted that their education has been severely impacted due to the absence of teachers for subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Despite repeated complaints over the past year, no action has been taken, leaving their studies in a state of complete disruption. They also mentioned the lack of proper internet facilities, which prevents them from attending online classes. Many students are facing board exams this year.
